Historical buildings in Nanded stand mute testimony to the reckless destruction of heritage in this ancient town which is one of the five Takhts of the Sikhs. The state government of Maharashtra and the Management of the Takht Hazur Sahib have failed to show devotion for the priceless heritage during the development process.

Sikh architecture, which is characterised by values of progressiveness, exquisite intricacy, austere beauty and logical flowing lines, dominates t of the recently constructed buildings raised as part of the beautification plan of the Takht Hazur Sahib Management Committee to mark the tercentenary celebrations of Gurta Gaddi Diwas of Guru Granth Sahib.

It was a rare sight and a rare feeling when over 1 lakh devotees thronged the banks of the Godavri to bring holy water to wash the Takht Hazur Sahib shrine and “shastars”( weapons of the Guru’s period) here today.

Dr Amarjit Singh, a Washington-based Sikh leader, alleged that administrators of Takht Hazoor Sahib were destroying irreplaceable heritage structures in and around the holy shrine in the name of beautification.
