FATEHGARH SAHIB: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has entrusted Baba Amrik Singh with kar Sewa of Diwan Todar Mal’s Jahaz Haveli here.
The decision was taken on Monday at a meeting of a committee constituted by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar. SGPC members Karnail Singh Panjoli, Didar Singh Bhatti, XEN Manpreet Singh and SGPC secretary Datmegh Singh are members of the committee.
Baba Amrik Singh undertook kar sewa at Harmandar Sahib and Nankana Sahib (Pakistan) before he was expelled by the Dera Kar Sewa of Jagtar Singh, Tarn Taran, following charges of embezzlement a couple of years ago.
On the complaint of Baba Mohinder Singh, dera treasurer, a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC had been registered by the Tarn Taran police in 2006 against Baba Amrik Singh and two of his relatives.
Refuting the charge of embezzling Rs 2 crore, the Baba had claimed that it was part of a conspiracy to defame him. Earlier, the restoration work of the dilapidated Jahaz Haveli was allotted to Mohinder Kaur, an NRI from UK. However, the SGPC was reportedly not satisfied with her work.
Diwan Todar Mal, a Sirhind merchant, had relinquished his entire wealth to get a small piece of land to perform the last rites of Guru Gobind Singhs two younger Sahibzadas and the Guru’s mother, Mata Gujri.
