Historical buildings a neglected lot despite grant

Despite receiving a grant of Rs 90 lakh from the Central Government for renovation of various historical buildings and parks in the city, the tourism department is yet to begin the restoration work.

Punjab govt to grant heritage status to Mohindra College Patiala:Kanwaljit Singh

The 132 years old Government Mohindra College here would soon get heritage status. Tis was disclosed by Punjab Co-operation Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh here Thursday while addressing a function in the college to honour meritorious students.

Heritage Ignored

Established in 1870 and still standing tall in Kotgarh locality, the St Mary’s Church is now starved of funds and crying for attention. While the majority of the Christian community in the region has migrated abroad, the 137-year-old Church reflects poorly on the heritage.    

Pollution pangs: Now, no parking near Harimandir Sahib

The government has taken a serious stand to curb the mounting pollution around the Golden Temple complex, to make the areas surrounding the shrine a vehicle-free zone by introducing battery operated buses to ferry pilgrims.

National Monument Cries For Attention

The historical fort that has been declared a national monument in the heart of the town here is crying for immediate attention as successive governments in the state have been playing politics on the issue of its conservation.
